Arlington falls to defending D4 champ

PROCTOR — Three Proctor Phantoms scored in double figures as they topped Arlington, 51-37, on Wednesday.

Joe Valerio led the way with 13 points, Nate Greb added 12 and Derek Almond had 11.

Jack Lane and Bailey Cross each had 10 for Arlington, who drop to 9-6 and play Friday at Poultney.

Patriots fall to Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. —The Mount Anthony boys basketball team struggled offensively on Wednesday, falling 64-24 on the road against Pittsfield.

"We did not defend well or put the ball in the basket," said MAU coach Marcus Hass.

Elton Wilkins led the Generals with 21 points.

MAU was led by Matt Steadman's 11 points.

MAU is 9-6 and hosts Rutland on Friday.

Bulldogs suffer defeat

SOUTH BURLINGTON — The Burr and Burton girls hockey team lost to South Burlington, 7-0, on the road Wednesday night.

South Burlington is the No. 1 team in Division II this season at 12-1-2.

Lola Herzog had 28 saves and BBA coach Ed Lewicki cited Kilo Francomb's work on defense as a highlight.

BBA is 4-11-2 and hosts Stowe for Senior Night on Saturday at Riley Rink.

SVC drops NECC game to Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. — The Southern Vermont men's basketball team fell to Elms on the road 73-70 on Wednesday night.

Four players scored in double figures for the Mountaineers, led by KJ Kinsey's 16. Andre Hodo added 14, Kyle Depollar had 13 and Claude Payne chipped in with 10. Payne also had 10 rebounds for the double-double.

Elms' top scorer was Michal Ohradka with 19 points.

SVC is 19-5 and hosts Senior Day on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Newbury.

Young women's softball

BENNINGTON — Young Woman's Softball Sign ups will be held tonight from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Bennington Fire House on River Street, and tonight at Molly Stark Elementary School from 6-7:30. All girls ages 7-12 yrs old as of January 1 are welcome. Fees are $55 per player: $95 two players same family: $130 three or more players same family. Bennington Little League signup

BENNINGTON — The Bennington Little League will host sign-up days today and Feb. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennington Fire House.

Children ages 5-11 by August 30 or 12 by April 30 wishing to play this season must register. This registration is for the entire Bennington and surrounding area. Returning players need to register as well. Birth certificates (xerox copies, no originals necessary) are required at time of registration.

The cost is $75 per player and $100 maximum per family. The cost for T-Ball players is $50. This year's fundraiser is included in the cost.

MALA registration

MALA is a youth lacrosse program from kindergarten to 8th grade for boys and girls representing Bennington, North Bennington, Woodford, Pownal and Shaftsbury.

Their boys and girls U9 instructional team season starts on April 9 and practices two days a week. Their boys and girls U11, U13 and U15 travel teams practice three to four days a week and their season starts on April 2.
