Bank of Bennington donates $25k to hospital

BENNINGTON — Rather than receiving gifts for its birthday, one local business has chosen instead to give.

The Bank of Bennington rung in its centennial with a $25,000 donation to Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) on Wednesday. The funds will be dedicated to the creation of several interactive and child friendly waiting areas within SVHC.

The first two waiting areas, dubbed Kids Korner's, will be developed at the pediatrics practice and on the Women's and Children's unit at Bennington's Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC.)

"Southwestern Vermont Health Care is grateful to The Bank of Bennington for its support, partnership, and generosity," said Thomas A. Dee, SVHC president and CEO, while accepting the donation. "We are committed to providing exceptional care to our community, and The Bank of Bennington Kids Korner will definitely have a positive impact for patients and families."

For the Bank of Bennington, the donation to SVHC is the first of many planned to celebrate their centennial. The business has made supporting community activities throughout the region a benchmark of their business model. In the past, the bank has supported organizations that benefit children in particular including Little League, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, and local food pantries.

"The hospital is a great asset to the community," said Jim Brown, The Bank of Bennington's president and CEO, who presented the donation. "We're happy to make an investment that benefits not only the hospital but also improves the experience for families using its services."
