Catamount perfect at Riot at the Rink

HOOSICK, N.Y. — The Catamount Wrestling Club was perfect on the day during the Riot at the Rink in Hoosick Falls on Friday.

The event on Friday was the varsity-age duals, while Saturday and Sunday will have youth teams from all over New York and New England.

Catamount went 5-0 to lead the way, with 432Yup next at 4-1. Hoosick Falls Wrestling Club was third at 3-2, Independent Wrestling Club was 2-3, Excelsior was 1-4 and Silverback went winless at 0-5.

Catamount won its first match over Silverback, 46-21, before rolling past Excelsior (63-6) and HFWC (54-6). They finished up the day with wins over Independent 42-28 and 432Yup 46-21.

Five Catamount competitors were perfect on the day, including Noah Call at 126 pounds, Gage McLaughlin at 145, Keegan Coon at 152, Colin Crowley at 220 and Brandon Cousino at heavyweight. All were 5-0, except for McLaughlin, who went 3-0 with two pins.

Call had a pair of pins in his 5-0 day, while Coon had a pair of pins as well. Crowley had a pin, a 10-2 major decision and a 4-0 decision to bookend his day. Cousino, who wrestles for Vergennes during the high school season, won three of his matches by fall, including two of them in the first period.

Chris Mayer was 4-1 at 182, all of his wins coming by decision. He only allowed five points in his five matches. Jack Ware at 113 pounds, Adam Frost (132), Keenan Taylor (138), Tyler Burgess (160), Adam Osha (170) and Sam Wilkins (195) were all 3-2. Hayden Rabideau (106) was 2-3, while Christian Burdick (120) went 1-4. Logan Sprague was 1-1.

The Hoosick Falls Wrestling Club — made up of a conglomerate of Section II wrestlers — lost to 432Yup and Catamount, but won duals against Independent, Silverback and Excelsior.

Hoosick's Gabe Fisher was 4-1 with a pin and two decisions at 120 pounds, while Dylan Winchell (Warrensburg) was 4-1 at 106 pounds with two pins. Galway's Brandon Grupe was 4-1 at 113 with three of his wins by pinfall. Mechanicville's Michael Gaudette was 4-1 at heavyweight as well with a pair of pins.

Hoosick's Craig Sawyer was 3-2 at 220 as was Chris Wilson at 195. Hoosick's Sam Richard was 2-3 as were Warrensburg's Dan Monthony, Mechanicville's Cody Gaudette and Dan Motta and Albany Academy's Drew Bogdan.

Peter Henson was 1-4 and Logan Powers was 0-5.

The youth tournament will begin on Saturday morning and the final four rounds are scheduled to take place on Sunday. The event is at the Reynolds-Gilchrist Ice Rink in Hoosick Falls.
