Letter: Roundabout at Bennington College is needed
We regularly travel Silk Road and Route 67A. We find the five pronged intersection of these two roads with the Bennington College's College Drive and Rice Lane challenging and dangerous. The recent modifications to the intersection have done little to improve the situation. Sight lines remain limited and traffic approaches very quickly.
Contrast that experience with the two recently added roundabouts on Northside Drive and Route 30/11 in Manchester, both of which have improved safety and traffic flow immensely.
We have said for the nearly 20 years that we have lived in Bennington that a roundabout at the convergence of Route 67A, Silk and Campus Roads, and Rice Lane would have huge safety and traffic flow benefits. The success of the Northside Drive roundabout confirms the effectiveness of roundabouts. We are delighted that Vermont DOT has budgeted for a roundabout at the dangerous 67A junction. It can not be built soon enough.
