Panthers' Pine named Wasaren League MVP
Megan Flynn was the recipient of the award for Hoosick Falls last season and this year, senior Kelly Pine walked away with league MVP honors for the Panthers.
Pine was the area's top scorer, averaging 17.3 points a game to lead the Panthers to their third-straight Section II, Class B semifinal appearance.
"Kelly is very deserving of this award and did a great job leading our team this season," said Hoosick Falls girls basketball coach Eamonn DeGraaf. "She has meant a lot to this program for the past five years and has accomplished a lot during her time here at Hoosick Falls. She is one of the best players I have ever coached and I believe has a bright future ahead of her in basketball at the college level."
Earlier this season, Pine became the fifth player in the program's history to reach the 1,000 career points mark.
Joining Pine with all-star honors for the Panthers was fellow senior Lizza Ryan who made first-team all league for Hoosick Falls.
Ryan was the team's second leading scorer, averaging 10.3 points a game for the Panthers this season.
Both junior Eliza Whitman and freshman Logan Thayne earned all-league honorable mention honors for the Panthers as well.
Thayne and Pine gave Hoosick Falls a solid one-two punch in the front-court, as Thyane averaged 9.3 points a contest in her first varsity season.
The Panthers finished with a 17-5 record on the season.
Other locals receiving all-league honors were Cambridge players Helen Mooney and Sophie Phillips.
Mooney had a terrific junior campaign for the Indians, averaging 11.3 points a game to lead Cambridge to a 8-14 record this season.
Phillips averaged just under eight points in 16 games played for the Indians during her freshman campaign.
