Stove Depot wins league title in softball

BENNINGTON — The Stove Depot team of the Bennington Young Women's softball league's 12U division won their league championship over the weekend, going from last to first place.

With more than 70 players on seven teams — five from Bennington, one from Arlington and one from Manchester — Stove Depot went 5-0 and outscored their opponents 73-38.

They scored in double figures in every game with a high of 17 in the opening game of the tournament.

Benner's was second, with Shaw's (Manchester) in third place. Bear Construction, Arlington E.A.T., Ramunto's and Cutler Electric rounded out the field.

Mount Anthony girls lacrosse camp

BENNINGTON — The Mount Anthony Youth Girls Lacrosse Camp will be held July 16th to 19th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Middle Willow Park.

The camp is coached by Chloe Griffin, current Governor Livingston High School (NJ) girls varsity lacrosse coach and former Mount Anthony assistant coach.

The camp costs $125, including a camp pinnie.

SVC camps

BENNINGTON — Southern Vermont College athletics will be running two camps this summer for those interested.

SVC will have a basketball camp, running from June 25-28 and August 6-11 for boys and girls entering second through 11th grade.

The camp will run Monday through Thursday and each session runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Individual participation and instruction in all phases of skill development and team play will be maximized. Campers are asked to please bring a lunch; concessions and pizza sales will also be available for purchase.

All camp sessions will be conducted in the Southern Vermont College Mountaineer Athletic Center with locker room and weight training facilities. The MAC is located on the SVC campus on the slopes of Mount Anthony overlooking Bennington.

The camp director is Mountaineers women's basketball coach Christin Gowan with current SVC players from both the men's and women's team as staff.

The camp costs $200 per week.

SVC will also be hosting an overnight girls volleyball camp from August 3-5 for girls entering their junior year in high school or above.

The camp will run 9am-5pm Friday and Saturday and 9am-noon Sunday.

This camp will be run by Coach Patrick Robidoux and multiple members of the SVC women's volleyball team and every camper will leave with a SVC Volleyball Camp t-shirt.

The volleyball camp costs $200.

Ken Baker weekend

HOOSICK, N.Y. — The 11th annual Coach Ken Baker weekend will take place on June 15-16 with different events around Hoosick Falls.

There will be a 3-on-3 basketball tournament starting at 8:30 a.m. at the school and a golf tournament at the Hoosick Falls Country Club, with the first group at 8 a.m. and the second at 1 p.m.

At night, there will be a social event starting at 5 p.m. at Brown's Taproom in Walloomsac with the band Nina's Brew with former Hoosick football player Mike Brewster as the entertainment.

The weekend is in honor of former Cambridge and Hoosick Falls coach Ken Baker, who died in 2008 after decades of coaching in both communities. For more information on the weekend or the Ken Baker scholarship, go to www.coachbakerfund.org.

H.F. youth football and cheer signups

HOOSICK, N.Y. — The Hoosick Falls youth football and cheer signups are going on for next season.

The cost for flag (Kindergarten to second grade) is $50, while Junior and Senior tackle (third through sixth grade) is $100. For the cheer, the cost is $50. Birth certificates are needed to sign up for Junior and Senior tackle.

Youth football camps

BENNINGTON — There will be three football camps in the area coming up in July.

The camps will take place at Hoosick Falls Central School and Burr and Burton Academy from July 9-12 and at Storm Stadium at Lower Willow Park from July 16-19 from 5 to 8 p.m. each night.

Camps will include positional work, passing and running drills and 7-on-7, and more with coaches from some of the top colleges in New England, along with graduates from local high schools including Burr and Burton, Mount Anthony and Hoosick Falls.

Pickleball in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. — If you like to play ping-pong, tennis, racquetball, squash or badminton then you will like the fun and fast growing game of pickleball.

Come to the CCS gym on Friday evenings from 6-8pm and on Sundays from 12-2.
