Young musicians chosen for festival
Marantz and Cherry are students of Deanna Baasch, and O'Brien and Cole are students of Jared Shapiro.
Strings for Kids, which is currently accepting new students for its spring semester, offers music instruction in violin, viola and cello for ages 5-18. With support from individuals and area businesses, Taconic Music is able to provide financial assistance to families that cannot afford the full tuition.
Most recently, Ron and Jacki Mancini from Mother Myrick's contributed $485 from their December buttercrunch promotion, and the Northshire Bookstore donated an additional $160 from its Friends and Family event, to benefit the scholarship fund.
Zion Episcopal Church generously provides space for lessons and recitals, and the Manchester Community Library hosts Taconic Music's family concerts and Music from the Shelves performances in the Children's Barn. "We are fortunate that so many local organizations recognize the value of the programs we provide. Their support allows us to reach more kids and families, both with lessons and free family performances and events," noted co-artistic director Joana Genova.
